Viral Video: Bengaluru Techie Arrested for Reckless Bike Ride with Girlfriend on Lap

A Bengaluru techie’s attempt to console his upset girlfriend took an unexpected turn when his risky stunt landed him in legal trouble. The man, a resident of Bellandur, was arrested after a viral video showed him riding his Bullet motorcycle on the busy Sarjapur Main Road with his girlfriend sitting on his lap.
A Risky Ride Caught on Camera
The incident occurred on February 22 at around 12:30 PM. The techie, originally from Chennai, had been living in Bengaluru for the past two years, with his girlfriend joining him last year. According to his statement, she was in a bad mood, and despite his efforts to cheer her up, she remained upset. In a bid to lift her spirits, he made her sit on his lap while riding his bike.
However, what he saw as a romantic gesture soon backfired. A fellow commuter recorded the dangerous ride and shared it on X (formerly Twitter). The video quickly gained traction, sparking widespread outrage among netizens who called for strict action against the rider.

Police Step In and Arrest the Techie
Taking suo motu action, the Sarjapur police arrested the techie on Friday. He was booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Section 281 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act. However, he was later released on station bail.
During questioning, the techie informed the police that his Bullet, which had a Tamil Nadu registration, had already been sent back to Chennai the previous Monday. In response, the authorities have issued a warning—his bike will be seized if it is brought back to Bengaluru.
Social Media Reactions and Safety Concerns
The incident has sparked a broader conversation on road safety and the increasing trend of reckless stunts for social media attention. While some users found humor in the bizarre situation, many criticized the rider’s disregard for public safety.
The Bengaluru police have urged citizens to act responsibly on the roads and avoid dangerous stunts that could endanger lives.
