In a bold move to tackle the growing burden of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), the Union Health Ministry has launched an Intensified Special NCD Screening Campaign. The initiative, which kicked off on February 20, 2025, aims to ensure 100% screening coverage for all individuals aged 30 years and above. The campaign will run until March 31, 2025, and will focus on early detection and management of diabetes, hypertension, and three common cancers—oral, breast, and cervical.

The campaign will be implemented through Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AAMs) and healthcare facilities across the country under the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases (NP-NCD). With a multi-pronged approach, the initiative emphasizes door-to-door outreach, real-time monitoring, and seamless coordination among various agencies to ensure its success.

Key Features of the Campaign

One of the standout aspects of the campaign is its door-to-door outreach strategy. Trained health workers, including ASHAs and ANMs, will visit communities to screen individuals in their homes, ensuring no one is left behind. To support this effort, states and Union Territories have been directed to ensure the availability of essential medical supplies, such as BP monitors, glucometers, and necessary medications, at all healthcare centers.

Real-time monitoring will play a crucial role in maintaining transparency and accountability. Daily updates on screenings, treatments, and follow-ups will be uploaded to the NP-NCD Portal, allowing for continuous progress tracking. Additionally, nodal officers have been appointed at facility, block, district, and state levels to ensure smooth coordination and execution of the campaign.

Aiming for a Healthier India

The campaign’s primary goal is to achieve 100% screening coverage, enabling early detection and timely intervention for NCDs. By establishing structured treatment and follow-up protocols, the initiative aims to reduce complications associated with these diseases and improve overall health outcomes. This, in turn, is expected to lower healthcare costs and enhance the quality of life for millions of citizens.

The government’s commitment to preventive healthcare is evident in this initiative, which aligns with the broader objectives of the Ayushman Bharat program. By empowering individuals to take charge of their health, the campaign marks a significant step toward building a healthier and NCD-free India.

As the campaign unfolds, the Health Ministry has urged citizens to actively participate in the screenings and spread awareness about the importance of early detection. With collective effort, the nation can move closer to achieving its goal of universal health coverage and improved well-being for all.
