Two in Bhosari diagnosed with cholera: Contaminated water to blame
Two people in Bhosari have been diagnosed with cholera, which was traced back to contaminated water provided by the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). Both patients are currently receiving intensive care at the YCM Hospital.
This incident highlights the dangers of waterborne diseases in the Dhavade Wasti area of Bhosari. In response, samples from three more patients were sent to the lab to see if there is a cholera outbreak.
Residents have complained about PCMC’s distribution of muddy and contaminated water throughout Bhosari. Despite these concerns, the municipality’s water supply department has allegedly ignored them.
A resident of Dhavade Wasti had connected a tap to the municipal water supply. Because of improper installation, the connection leaked, contaminating the water. This contaminated supply is suspected of causing cholera in the two patients currently in the ICU.
Cholera, a disease transmitted through contaminated water, has prompted the medical department to direct the water supply department to test water samples from Dhavade Wasti.
Cholera symptoms include severe diarrhea, vomiting, thirst, leg pain, irritability, a fast heartbeat, and low blood pressure. Medical officers from the municipal corporation have advised residents to drink only clean water and avoid eating contaminated food.
To prevent the spread of cholera, PCMC’s medical department will conduct an inspection of the Dhavade area of Bhosari. Dr. Laxman Gofane, a medical officer, has advised citizens to boil water before drinking to ensure its safety.
