Tragic Accident in Khandala: Container overturns and crushes car, killing two and injuring six
On Monday night, a horrific accident took place at the Battery Hill turn on the old Mumbai-Pune highway in Khandala. A container bound for Mumbai overturned at around 10.30 pm and crashed onto a car traveling towards Pune. The car was completely crushed under the container, resulting in a fatal accident.
In this severe accident, Dattatray Ramdas Chaudhari (55) and Kavita Dattatray Chaudhari (46), both residents of Nimdale, District Dhule, and currently residing in Devkanpimpiri, District Jalgaon, lost their lives. Bhumika Dattatray Chaudhari (16) and Mitansh Dattatray Chaudhari (9), also residents of Nimdale, District Dhule, and currently residing in Devkanpimpiri, District Jalgaon, along with Yogesh Shriram Chaudhari (40), Jhanvi Yogesh Chaudhari (31), Dipansha Yogesh Chaudhari (9), and Jigisha Yogesh Chaudhari (1.5), all residents of Sanskruti Building, Rao Colony, Talegaon, Taluka Maval, were injured.
According to the Lonavala City Police, the container (MH 14FT 1445), was heading towards Mumbai when it lost control at a slope and turn at Khandala Battery Hill, leading to the accident. The car (MH 14 BX 1605) was completely buried under the container, resulting in the tragic loss of two lives at the scene. The container driver fled the spot after the accident.
Responding to this horrific incident, authorities swiftly initiated legal proceedings. A case has been registered against the unknown driver of the container at the Lonavla City Police Station. The charges include sections 304 (A), 279, 337, 338 of the Motor Vehicle Act 184, and 134 B. The injured have been admitted to private hospitals for treatment.
