Tata Safari and Harrier are the first Indian cars to receive prestigious ‘Global NCAP Safer Choice’ award
Tata Motors has reached a significant milestone with the Tata Safari and Harrier being awarded the prestigious Global NCAP Safer Choice Award. These SUVs are the first Indian cars to receive this accolade since Global NCAP updated its testing protocols in 2022.
The Global NCAP Safer Choice Award, launched in 2018, recognizes vehicles that meet stringent safety standards, including top ratings for adult and child occupant protection, advanced safety features, and compliance with new testing protocols. Both the Tata Safari and Harrier achieved a five-star rating for adult and child occupant protection in Global NCAP’s #SaferCarsForIndia campaign.
To qualify for the Safer Choice Award, a vehicle must meet several criteria:
- Five-star rating for adult occupant protection.
- Five-star rating for child occupant protection.
- Speed assistance system with full score in Global NCAP tests.
- Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) systems meeting UN regulatory requirements.
- Blind Spot Detection (BSD) as a stand-alone option meeting Global NCAP’s standards.
David Ward, President of the Towards Zero Foundation, commended Tata Motors for its commitment to vehicle safety. “Encouraging automakers to achieve higher protection levels for occupants and vulnerable road users is crucial, and Tata Motors has shown impressive leadership in this area.”
Mohan Savarkar, Vice President and Chief Product Officer at Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited, expressed pride in the achievement. “We are delighted to receive the Safer Choice Award for the Tata Safari and Harrier. This recognition highlights our commitment to safety and innovation, setting a new benchmark for the industry. We are grateful to Global NCAP for their support as we continue to prioritize safety in all our vehicles.”
The Safer Choice Award is valid for Safari and Harrier models with VIN MAT631752RWH30574 (production date: 18/8/2024) and represents Tata Motors’ ongoing efforts to lead the way in vehicle safety.
