Pune Weather: Why does it feel cooler in Pune suddenly? Has the weather changed or is it something else?
Over the past 48 hours, Pune has witnessed a drop in maximum temperature and the city’s highest temperature has consistently ranged between 30 and 31 degrees Celsius.
Over the past two days, the city has witnessed a significant dip in temperatures, with the mercury hovering around a pleasant 30 to 31 degrees Celsius, a stark contrast to the usual highs of 38 to 41 degrees Celsius.
This unexpected cool-down is due to the moisture-laden winds from the Arabian Sea, a direct influence of Cyclone Remal’s landfall. While the cyclone unleashed its fury in West Bengal, claiming lives and causing destruction, its effects on Maharashtra were relatively mild, showing up mainly as a welcome drop in temperature.
However, this cool weather might be not be a sign of weather change. Experts from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in Pune suggest that the impact of Cyclone Remal has changed the wind patterns over the region, leading to a depletion of moisture over southern Gujarat and Maharashtra. This could result in a quick rise in temperatures across west-central India, with Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, and southern Madhya Pradesh bracing for a return of the heat.
Amidst these climatic fluctuations, the question on everyone’s mind is the impact of Cyclone Remal on the anticipated monsoon season.

The IMD had earlier forecasted the monsoon’s arrival in Kerala by May 31, setting the stage for the seasonal rains to progress northward. Puneites, along with the rest of the region, are keeping a watchful eye on the skies, hoping for a timely and bountiful monsoon to provide lasting relief from the heat.
