Pune: Update on Shivajinagar to Hinjawadi Metro; 82% Work Completed, Trial Run Expected Soon, Launch by October 2025
Pune Metro’s much-anticipated Shivajinagar to Hinjawadi Line 3 is nearing completion, with 82% of the work already finished. According to metro authorities, only one kilometer of viaduct work remains pending. Once the structural work is completed, a route safety inspection will be conducted, followed by a trial run. The metro is expected to be fully operational by October 2025.
This 23.3 km-long elevated metro line, costing ₹8,300 crore, will feature 23 stations, including key stops like Baner, Sakal Nagar, Civil Court, and Hinjawadi. The project, delayed due to election-related restrictions and VIP movement breaks, is now progressing at full speed. Once operational, it will significantly ease traffic congestion in Hinjawadi and surrounding areas, offering a swift and affordable commute for Punekars.
The metro will accommodate up to 1,000 commuters at a time, with each station being just 1-1.20 minutes apart. Stations such as Megapolis Circle, Infosys Phase II, Wipro Phase II, and Balewadi Stadium are expected to cater to major residential and commercial hubs. The depot for the line is located in Maan village, spread across 20 hectares.
With the construction of Baner, Sakal Nagar, and Civil Court stations still underway, metro authorities are working diligently to complete the remaining facilities, including stairways at 11 other stations. The launch of this metro line is set to transform daily commutes, reduce travel time, and boost urban development in Pune.
