Pune, 22nd March 2025: In a significant development for Pune commuters, the Range Hills Chowk-Shivajinagar stretch on University Road is set to reopen for vehicular traffic in the next few days. The route, which had been closed for over a year due to ongoing Metro construction, had forced vehicles to take a longer detour via Sinchan Nagar Road and Agriculture College, causing widespread inconvenience.

Officials have confirmed that the Metro construction work on this stretch is nearing completion, paving the way for a phased reopening of the road. The closure had led to frequent complaints from commuters about increased travel time and congestion, prompting authorities to expedite the process.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for Traffic, Amol Zende, announced on Friday that steps are being taken to gradually reopen the stretch over the next four to five days. To ensure a smooth transition, the traffic police are coordinating closely with the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), which is constructing the Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar elevated Metro line along this route.

In addition to the Metro viaduct, work on a flyover in the same area is also underway, further complicating traffic movement. The restrictions have been particularly challenging for commuters traveling from Aundh and Baner, as diversions begin even before reaching SPPU Chowk.

The reopening of the stretch is expected to bring much-needed relief to daily commuters, reducing travel time and easing congestion in the area.
