Pune: Traffic police issue advisory regarding road closures, alternate routes and no parking zones during Ganeshotsav 2024

Pune, September 11, 2024: As Pune gears up for Ganeshotsav 2024, which will be celebrated from September 7 to September 17, a large influx of devotees is expected across the city to witness the various Ganesh idol installations, lighting, and festivities. To manage the anticipated traffic congestion, Pune City Police have announced specific road closures and alternative routes from September 11 to September 18, 2024. These closures will be enforced from 5:00 PM until the end of peak traffic hours daily.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police, Amol Zende, the following roads will be closed to traffic, with essential services (fire brigade, police vehicles, ambulances) being exempted:

Roads Closed and Alternative Routes:

  1. Lakshmi Road (Hamjekhan Chowk to Tilak Chowk):
    • Alternative Route: Right turn at Dulya Maruti Chowk via Daruwala Bridge, left at Hamjekhan Chowk onto Maharana Pratap Road, through Ghorpadi Peth Police Station, and then Shankar Sheth Road to the destination.
  2. Shivaji Road (Gadgil Statue to Jedhe Chowk):
    • Alternative Route: Vehicles from Shivajinagar to Swargate can take S.G. Barve Chowk, J.M. Road, Alka Chowk, Tilak Road, or Shastri Road via Nehru Road.
  3. Bajirao Road (Pooram Chowk to Appa Balwant Chowk):
    • Alternative Route: From Pooram Chowk, take Tilak Road and turn right to Kelkar Road leading to Appa Balwant Chowk.
  4. Tilak Road (Hirabag Chowk to Jedhe Chowk):
    • Alternative Route: Turn at Jamnalal Bajaj Statue to Pooram Chowk or Hirabag.
  5. Sinhagad Garage (Ghorpadi Peth to Rashtrabhushan to Hirabag Chowk):
    • Alternative Route: Dr. Mansaram Naik Road to Sinhagad Garage Chowk, crossing Kotnis Hospital to Bhikardas Chowki Chowk and onward via Tilak Road.
  6. Sans Road (Gotiram Bhaiya Chowk to Govind Halwai Chowk): Closed to traffic.
  7. Other Road Closures Include:
    • Panghanti Chowk to Ganj Peth Chowki
    • Veer Lahuji Vastad Talim from Ganjpeth Chowk
    • Gawksab Masjid to Central Street Chowki
    • Kohinoor Chowk to Babajan Chowk
    • Jedhe Prasad Road, Subhanshah Road, Parshwanath Chowk to Shastri Chowk

No-Parking Zones:

Parking will be prohibited on:

  1. Shivaji Road (Jijamata Chowk to Mandai Chowk)
  2. Bajirao Road (Shanipar to Phutkaburud)
  3. Appa Balwant to Budhwar Chowk

Temporary Relaxation of One-Way Traffic:

From September 11 to September 18, 2024, the one-way traffic order will be temporarily relaxed on:

  1. Kumthekar Road, Sadashiv Peth, Phadke Houd Road
  2. Sinhagad Garage to M.N.P. Karyakshala Chowk
  3. Kohinoor Hotel to Bhagwan Mahaveer Chowk (MG Road)
