Pune, May 31, 2024: Traffic diversions have been announced on the University Road (Ganeshkhind Road) to facilitate the construction of five metro stations along the Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar Metro Line 3.

Traffic Diversions on Ganeshkhind Road

  • The section from ABIL House to Shimla Office Chowk will be completely closed for vehicles heading towards Shivajinagar from Savitribai Phule Pune University Road.
  • Heavy vehicles coming from Ravet and Sangvi, heading towards Shivajinagar should take a left turn at Bremen Chowk and head towards Aundh road till Khadki Railway Station and cross the railway line via railway under bridge near Khadki police station. Then use the old Mumbai-Pune highway to reach Shivajinagar.
  • Two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and four-wheelers coming from Ravet/Sangvi can head straight past Pune University Chowk and take a left turn at ABIL House and use the Range Hills route.
  • Pune University internal road can be used as an alternative route for light vehicles.
  • Traffic coming from range hills can use the newly developed road from metro car shed adjacent to Sakhar Sankul as an alternative to head towards Shimla office.

These traffic changes will be come into effect from June 01, 2024.

Pune Metro Line III is the first urban Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) project to be awarded by Pune Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (PMRDA) to a consortium of TRIL Urban Transport Private Limited (TATA Group) & Siemens Project Ventures GMBH under the new Metro Policy 2017 in the Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode.

To fast-track the project, the administration has decided to simultaneously undertake construction work for the following five metro stations.

  • University Chowk
  • RBI
  • Agriculture College
  • Shimla Office
  • Shivajinagar/Civil Court

Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar Metro Line III is a part of the 3 lines planned for the city of Pune & shall be a fully elevated corridor covering a distance of 24 km with 23 stations between the IT hub of Hinjewadi & central business district of Shivajinagar.
