Pune: Thunderstorm Leaves Trail of Destruction – Trees Uprooted, Shed Collapse Injures One

Pune is assessing the damage after a severe thunderstorm, accompanied by high-speed winds, heavy rain, and hail, swept through the city on Thursday. The storm has left a trail of destruction, including uprooted trees, waterlogging in low-lying areas, and a collapsed iron shed near Bharati Vidyapeeth School in Balewadi.
Storm Aftermath: Major Incidents Reported
- Balewadi Shed Collapse: An iron structure at a construction site near Bharati Vidyapeeth School gave way under the force of the storm, injuring one person and damaging multiple vehicles. Four fire engines were dispatched to the scene for rescue operations.
- Uprooted Trees & Waterlogging: Several areas reported fallen trees blocking roads, while waterlogging disrupted traffic in vulnerable zones.
- Power Outages & Disruptions: Intermittent electricity cuts were reported in Aundh, Pashan, and Bavdhan as authorities worked to restore normalcy.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier warned of thunderstorms, gusty winds, and hailstorms across Maharashtra, with Vidarbha remaining on high alert. Unseasonal rainfall has already affected Latur, Sangli, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, compounding challenges for farmers facing crop damage.

While the worst of the storm has passed, the IMD predicts continued instability in Nagpur, Wardha, and Yavatmal over the next 24 hours. Residents are urged to avoid standing near weak structures or trees as intermittent showers may persist.
