Pune: ST Bus Hits Pedestrian on Pune City Highway, Fatal Accident Occurs
A tragic accident occurred on the Pune Nagar highway in Vagholi when a 40-year-old pedestrian was struck by an ST bus near the SBI Bank around 9:30 am. The pedestrian died instantly upon being hit by the bus, which was traveling from Rajgurunagar to Paithan. The victim’s identity is yet to be confirmed.
According to police reports, the pedestrian was crossing the highway when he was hit by the bus heading towards Nagar. The impact caused the pedestrian to fall under the rear wheel, leading to his immediate death. The scene was marked by significant blood loss. Upon receiving information about the accident, personnel from the Lonikand Police and Lonikand Traffic Department arrived at the site promptly.
The deceased was taken to Sassoon Hospital, and the bus was cleared from the road, alleviating the traffic jam caused by the incident. Police managed the accident site by covering the blood with soil and washing the area with a water tanker.
Senior Police Inspector Savalaram Salgaonkar was present at the scene. The bus driver fled initially but later surrendered at the police station. Traffic staff, including Jitendra Pawar and Swapnil Galphade, helped restore normal traffic flow.
In response to this and other recent accidents on the Wagholi to Pune city highway, authorities plan to install a barrier on the highway divider within the next eight days. This measure aims to prevent pedestrians from crossing the highway at unsafe points, thereby reducing the risk of such fatal accidents.
