Pune Sizzles at 40.9°C, Becomes Maharashtra’s Hottest City, Temperatures to Soar Further as Clear Skies Return
Pune is reeling under intense heat as temperatures soared past the 40-degree mark once again. Koregaon Park recorded a blistering 40.9°C on March 24, making Pune the hottest city in Maharashtra. This temperature was among the highest recorded in the state, surpassing traditionally hotter regions like Nagpur and Solapur.
No Relief Even at Night
The scorching heat is not limited to daytime. Nighttime temperatures are also staying high, offering little relief. Except for a few locations like NDA, where the mercury dropped to 16.8°C, most places in Pune recorded minimum temperatures above 20°C. This trend is making nights uncomfortable for residents.
After a few days of relief, temperatures are rising quickly as the skies are mainly clear and humidity levels are low. There is no immediate relief in sight, according to weather experts.
Heatwave Elsewhere in Maharashtra
Other parts of the state also witnessed soaring temperatures. Some notable maximum temperatures included:
- Jalgaon: 39.3°C
- Nashik: 38.0°C
- Satara: 39.2°C
- Solapur: 38.9°C
- Mumbai (Santacruz): 33.0°C
- Sindhudurg: 33.5°C
Meanwhile, Ahmadnagar recorded Maharashtra’s lowest minimum temperature at 16.3°C, providing a rare pocket of relief.
No Immediate Heatwave Warning
Despite the rising mercury levels, experts have ruled out a heatwave in Maharashtra or any other part of India for the next 3-4 days. However, isolated hot and humid conditions are expected to persist in Gujarat and neighboring regions. Weather analysts also predict a weakening wind discontinuity line, which has shifted southward in Maharashtra. This could bring isolated light rain and thunderstorms in Kolhapur, Sangli, Solapur, and Latur in the coming days.
Residents are advised to take precautions against the heat, stay hydrated, and avoid outdoor activities during peak hours.
