Scorching Heat Grips Maharashtra

Akola was the hottest in the state at 41.4°C, followed closely by Koregaon Park and Jalgaon at 40.3°C. Pune’s Lohgaon and Malegaon weren’t far behind, touching 39.6°C and 39.2°C, respectively. Even Shivajinagar, usually slightly cooler, hit 38.2°C. Other cities like Solapur (38.9°C), Nashik (37.6°C), Sangli (37.3°C), and Satara (37.4°C) also baked under the intense sun. Surprisingly, even Mahabaleshwar, known for its pleasant climate, saw daytime temperatures rise to 31.8°C.

Rain and Thunderstorms Bring Temporary Relief to Some

While Pune continues to swelter under clear skies, other parts of Maharashtra experienced sudden downpours and thunderstorms. Sangli district witnessed heavy rain in Radhanagari, Murgud, Adampur, and Jaysingpur, with Peth Vadgaon even reporting hail for two hours.

The IMD issued a Nowcast warning late Tuesday, predicting thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) in Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Satara, and Kolhapur.

Will Pune Get Any Relief?

According to Skymet Weather Services, a cyclonic circulation is expected to form over north interior Karnataka and Madhya Maharashtra by March 28, shifting towards Konkan by March 29. This may bring light rain to parts of Madhya Maharashtra on March 30-31. However, Pune is likely to miss out on rainfall, experiencing only cloudy skies. With an average March rainfall of just 2.2mm, the city has remained dry this month.

Meanwhile, Akola recorded the highest temperature in the state (41.4°C), while Ahilya Nagar saw the lowest at 15.7°C – a stark reminder of Maharashtra’s unpredictable weather extremes.
