The decision was confirmed by Minister of State for Transport Madhuri Misal and MLA Siddharth Shirole following a high-level meeting in Mumbai. The meeting was attended by key stakeholders, including Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik, Managing Director of Pune MahaMetro Shravan Hardikar, and Managing Director of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) Madhav Kusekar.

The redevelopment project, to be completed over three years, will see Pune MahaMetro and MSRTC working in coordination. Deputy CM Pawar has instructed authorities to finalize all necessary agreements and submit the project proposal within the next eight days to expedite the process.

The Shivajinagar bus stand redevelopment plan has been in discussion since 2019, following its temporary relocation to Wakdewadi. Despite multiple meetings, protests, and proposals, no concrete action was taken until now. The latest directive aims to address years of delays and bring the project to fruition.

Misal highlighted the need to integrate the Swargate bus and metro stations, similar to the planned Shivajinagar project. Shirole added that an MoU between MSRTC and MahaMetro is expected to be signed next week to formalize the partnership. The redevelopment is expected to significantly enhance commuter convenience and streamline connectivity across Pune.
