Pune: Sanitary Napkin Vending Machines to Be Installed Soon at New Airport Terminal
Female passengers at Pune’s Lohegaon International Airport have expressed concerns over the absence of sanitary napkin vending and disposal machines in the newly inaugurated terminal.
With approximately 80% of flights now operating from the new terminal, the lack of these facilities has raised significant issues regarding women’s health and hygiene.
In response to these concerns, the airport administration has assured passengers that the machines will soon be installed in the women’s restrooms. Santosh Dhoke, Director of Pune International Airport, confirmed the development, stating, “We will soon install around 20 to 22 sanitary napkin vending machines along with an equal number of disposal units in the women’s toilets at the new terminal.”
The old terminal, which is currently under redevelopment, previously had these facilities in place. However, the new terminal lacks such amenities, causing inconvenience for female travelers. Under the ‘Disha’ project, which aims to introduce passenger-friendly initiatives at the airport, there have been suggestions to incorporate these vending machines as part of the plan. While authorities have promised a resolution, passengers are eagerly awaiting swift action to ensure basic hygiene facilities are available.
