Pune – The Road Department has commenced construction of a 60-meter-wide road at Katraj Chowk after the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) successfully acquired the private land required for the project. The land, identified as Survey Number 1/2, had been earmarked for road development since the 1987 development plan, but the acquisition process was delayed.

In 2017, the PMC revised the plan, proposing a 60-meter-wide road instead of the initially planned 30-meter road. After measuring and evaluating the site, the PMC completed the land acquisition process, compensating the landowners with Rs 21.57 crore as per the Land Acquisition Act of 2013.

The Road Department began work immediately after taking possession of the land, even though it was a holiday. The site, currently cluttered with garbage, soil, and debris, is being cleared using JCB machines. Road Department Head Aniruddha Pawaskar emphasized the importance of constructing a strong cement concrete road to address the heavy traffic congestion at the busy chowk.

While a flyover is already under construction at Katraj Chowk, the new road is expected to provide immediate relief to commuters once completed. The project is part of the PMC’s efforts to improve infrastructure and reduce traffic bottlenecks in the area.
