Pune: Rising Temperatures Expected as Clear Skies Return, Says IMD

Pune, 23rd March 2025: After a brief period of relief from the heat, Pune is bracing for rising temperatures as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts a return to clear skies in the coming days. According to the latest seven-day weather forecast, the city will experience consistently clear skies starting March 24, leading to a gradual temperature increase. By March 28, the mercury is expected to reach 39°C.
An IMD official explained, “With cloud cover dissipating, temperatures are likely to climb again. Over the past few days, partial cloudiness helped moderate the heat by reflecting some solar radiation. However, clear skies will allow more direct sunlight to reach the surface, raising daytime temperatures.”
On Saturday, Pune recorded a maximum temperature of 36.6°C and a minimum of 15.4°C, a slight drop from March 19, when the city experienced a high of 38.7°C and a low of 18.1°C. Meanwhile, Bramhapuri in Maharashtra registered the highest temperature at 39.3°C, still below the extreme 40°C+ levels seen earlier this month. A cooling trend has also been observed in Akola, where temperatures dropped from 41.1°C on March 19 to 39.1°C.
The IMD’s Saturday update highlighted, “A gradual rise in maximum temperatures by 2-4°C is expected across Central India and interior Maharashtra over the next four to five days.” The official also noted that moisture levels are likely to decrease as dry weather conditions prevail across most districts of Maharashtra. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions to cope with the rising heat.
