Pune: Daily commuters from Kothrud can finally breathe a sigh of relief as the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to complete the missing road link near Eklavya College, connecting it to the Pune-Bengaluru highway. The 80-metre rough patch, which has long caused inconvenience, will soon be transformed into a smooth road, easing traffic congestion in the area.

PMC Acquires Land for Road Construction

The PMC will acquire 13,000 square feet of land to build the crucial missing link, offering compensation through Transferable Development Rights (TDR) and Floor Space Index (FSI). A senior PMC official stated, “The acquisition process is nearing completion, and construction is expected to begin soon, with the road likely to be ready within a month of work starting.”

Long-Pending Development Plan Finally Executed

This 100-metre road was part of the 1987 Development Plan (DP), but only 20 metres were constructed nearly a year ago. If the PMC had opted for cash compensation, the project would have cost around â‚¹7 crore. Once completed, the road will provide a direct route from Kothrud and Karve Road to Warje and Chandani Chowk, reducing dependence on Mahatma Society Road and Paud Road, which often face heavy traffic.

Residents and Commuters Welcome the Move

A local resident and interior designer, emphasized the urgency of the project: “The new road will significantly ease traffic pressure in the area.” another businessman, added, “A well-built road here will make commuting much smoother.”

PMC’s Larger Plan for Missing Road Links

PMC data reveals that 459 km of missing road links exist across Pune, with 678 requiring repairs. So far, 33 priority links have been identified, and 3 have been completedAniruddha Pawaskar, head of PMC’s Road Department, said, “We are negotiating with landowners to improve traffic management across the city.”

This development marks a significant step toward better infrastructure and smoother commutes for Pune residents.
