Pune Records Highest Temperature in Maharashtra; Lohegaon Sizzles at 38.6°C

Pune’s Lohegaon area recorded the highest temperature in Maharashtra on Saturday, March 9, 2025, reaching a scorching 39.8 degrees Celsius, as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD). This marks the third time this month that Lohegaon has reported the state’s highest temperature, with previous highs of 38.6°C on March 3 and 38°C on March 6.
The IMD forecasts that the above-normal temperatures will persist across the state for the next three to four days, with Lohegaon’s temperature recorded at 4.6°C above normal. Other areas in Pune, including Koregaon Park (39.1°C) and Chinchwad (39.4°C), also experienced significant heat spikes.
Statewide, maximum temperatures in all subdivisions ranged between 1.7°C and 4.6°C above normal. On March 7, Pune’s maximum temperature was 36.4°C (1.5°C above normal), rising to 38°C (3.1°C above normal) on March 8. Meanwhile, nighttime temperatures dropped slightly, with March 7 recording 13.2°C (1.6°C below normal) and March 8 at 14.4°C (normal).
SD Sanap, a senior meteorologist at IMD Pune, attributed the dry weather and rising temperatures to the absence of active weather systems over Maharashtra. Coastal areas, including Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, and parts of Mumbai, are under a yellow alert for isolated heatwave conditions.
The state has seen fluctuating temperatures this month, with Bramhapuri recording 38.6°C on March 2, Solapur reaching 39.4°C on March 4, and Yavatmal hitting 41.2°C on March 7. IMD officials predict nighttime temperatures will rise again after March 8 due to subdued cool northern winds.
