Pune: Reckless Container Crushes 15 Vehicles on Chakan-Shikrapur Road, Shocking CCTV Footage Emerges
Pune, January 16, 2025 – A tragic accident on the Chakan-Shikrapur Road in Pune district has brought the issue of road safety into sharp focus. A speeding container truck went berserk, colliding with 12 to 15 vehicles and leaving five people seriously injured. The accident, captured on CCTV, shows the devastating impact as vehicles were smashed to pieces.
The incident occurred around 1 PM, when the container truck, reportedly speeding, first hit a small tempo parked on the roadside. The impact was so severe that the tempo was pushed aside, and the truck continued its rampage, hitting multiple vehicles before finally coming to a halt. One car was seen crushed under the container, with several others left in a mangled state. Videos recorded by bystanders reveal the horrifying aftermath, leaving viewers stunned.

Police Chase and Public Outrage
The accident reportedly began when the container truck struck a car in the jurisdiction of the Chakan Police Station, under the Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate (PCPC). Instead of stopping, the driver sped away, prompting a police chase. During the pursuit, the truck collided with several vehicles, including a police vehicle. An officer narrowly escaped death by jumping out of the police vehicle in time.
The driver was eventually apprehended within the limits of the Shikrapur Police Station, under Pune Rural Police Force. Enraged locals beat the driver before handing him over to the authorities. The police have sent the driver for a medical test to determine if he was under the influence of alcohol, with eyewitnesses claiming he appeared intoxicated.
Injuries and Investigation
Assistant Police Inspector Nyamne, one of the officers in pursuit, sustained injuries in the incident, along with several civilians. Assistant Commissioner of Police (Chakan Division) Rajendra Singh Gaur confirmed, “Seven collisions have been verified, and investigations are ongoing to identify if more vehicles or individuals were involved. The driver is being tested for intoxication, and further inquiries are underway.”
