After demolishing the old building, the new station was developed by the Great Indian Peninsula Railway and inaugurated on July 27, 1925, by Sir Leslie Wilson, the then Governor of Bombay.
Today, Pune Station handles over 200 trains & serves approximately 1.5 lakh passengers daily.
The building was initially designed in 1915 and constructed under Wilson’s supervision from 1922 to 1925, it was inaugurated on July 27, 1925.
The 100th glorious year of the Pune Railway Station Heritage Building was celebrated by decorating the building with beautiful lighting.
A cake-cutting ceremony was held as Pune Railway Station Enters 100th Year on Saturday.
At present, the station consists of 6 platforms. Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw recently visited Pune railway station. He said there were plans to re-develop the building completely without touching its heritage.
