A woman, who runs a lodge in the residential area of Kalyani Nagar, Pune, has been charged for allegedly operating a prostitution racket. Although her name was initially included in a police complaint, no legal action was taken against her at the time. However, after further investigation, she, along with two other individuals, has been officially named as an accused in the case.

The Yerwada police uncovered the illegal operation at the lodge, leading to the arrest of the lodge manager, Amol Tambde, and an agent named Bunty. The suspects are facing charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code as well as the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act of 1956.

Although Sonia Gidwani’s name appeared in the initial police report, authorities had not filed charges against her until now. Senior police officials have stated that they will formally charge her after confirming her role in the crime.

During the investigation, Amol Tambde, one of the individuals arrested, admitted that he had been providing customers with photos and contact details of women based on directions from Sonia Gidwani, the owner of Spring Brook Lodge. The probe revealed that prostitution was being carried out at the lodge, where women were offered to clients for monetary gain, benefiting Gidwani and the other two accused.

As a result, Gidwani and the others have now been formally named as accused in the case, and the police have presented this information in court. Due to the involvement of multiple individuals in the crime, additional sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Section 143(3), have been incorporated into the case.

In June 2023, a case was filed against Sonia Gidwani and another individual for taking control of the Spring Brook Lodge after their lease expired. The Yerwada police have now submitted a charge sheet to the court, which means they believe there is enough evidence to proceed with a trial.

The original owner had legally leased the lodge to them, but they failed to return it and stopped paying rent after the lease period ended. This legal action suggests that the police are taking the case seriously, and the court will determine whether the original owner will be compensated for the loss of their property.
