Pune: PMRDA Removes 904 Illegal Constructions in Three-Day Demolition Drive

Pune, March 6: In a major crackdown on unauthorized constructions, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has demolished 904 illegal structures over a span of three days. The special drive, conducted from March 3 to March 5, cleared more than 90,600 square meters of encroachments along national and state highways surrounding Pune, significantly improving traffic flow in the affected areas.
The demolition campaign focused on key routes, including Pune-Nashik Highway, Pune-Solapur Highway, and Pune-Chandni Chowk to Paud Road. On March 5 alone, 252 illegal constructions spanning 25,200 square feet were removed. Many locals voluntarily dismantled their unauthorized structures after receiving official notices.
During the first two days, 201 encroachments (20,100 sq. ft.) were demolished on March 3, followed by 453 structures (45,300 sq. ft.) on March 4. PMRDA Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase stated that the survey of unauthorized constructions is ongoing and assured that similar actions will continue to prevent future illegal encroachments.
This large-scale operation was carried out under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase, Police Superintendent Amol Tambe, and Deputy Collector Dr. Deepti Suryawanshi Patil, along with a team of engineers and local police personnel. Authorities have warned against further illegal constructions in PMRDA-regulated areas, emphasizing strict action against violators.
The initiative is expected to improve urban planning and ease traffic congestion in Pune’s rapidly growing metropolitan region.
