Pune: The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has accelerated the inner ring road project, proposing the acquisition of 115 hectares across 13 villages. The land acquisition process is set to begin soon for this crucial 83-km-long project, which is Pune district’s second ring road after the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation Limited’s (MSRDC) outer ring road.

Estimated at ₹14,200 crore, the project aims to improve connectivity by linking Pune-Satara Road with Ahmednagar Road. The proposed infrastructure includes 42 connecting roads, 17 bridges, and 10 tunnels, with a 5-metre-wide space reserved for metro tracks.

The first phase, spanning Solu to Wadgaon Shinde, is expected to decongest Ahmednagar Road. The entire project will cover 1,301 survey numbers across 44 villages in Khed, Haveli, Mulshi, and Maval talukas, requiring a total of 743.41 hectares.

PMRDA has allocated ₹113 crore for land acquisition, depositing 30% of the amount with the district collector’s office for the first phase. A 6.5-km stretch from Alandi to Wagholi on Ahmednagar Road is also part of the plan. The inner ring road will connect with MSRDC’s outer circular ring road at Solu village.

A 5.7-km section of the road falls under Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) limits, passing through Lohegaon. As per the agreement, PMC will develop this section before transferring it to PMRDA. The 65-metre-wide road will connect Pune to Pimpri-Chinchwad via Lohegaon and will be built under a public-private partnership (PPP).

Land acquisition is set to proceed in 13 villages, including Wadachi Wadi, Bhilarewadi, Pisoli, Yewalewadi, Mangdewadi, Gujar-Nimbalkarwadi, Jambhulwadi, Ambegaon Khurd, Nirgudi, Kadamwakvasti, Solu, and Vadgaon Shinde. PMRDA will purchase land directly at market rates, with valuation finalized by a committee after land measurement.

Deputy Collector (Land Acquisition) Kalyan Pandhare stated, “PMRDA has submitted proposals to acquire 115 hectares. After measurement, the land will be acquired through direct purchase with farmers’ consent.”

Meanwhile, PMC has started acquiring land for its 5.7-km stretch of the inner ring road, requiring 3.7 lakh square metres of land. Contractor Jitendra Singh has been appointed for this process. So far, only 20,000 square metres have been acquired, and PMC’s road department has begun work under the PPP model.

The inner ring road project, proposed in 2016, aims to reduce traffic congestion in Pune’s core areas and support suburban development.
