Pune: PMRDA Extends Deadline for Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar Metro Line-3 to September 2025

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has extended the deadline for the completion of the Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar Metro Line-3 to September 2025. Initially set for March 2025, the 23-km elevated Metro rail project connects Hinjawadi, the city’s IT hub, to Shivajinagar.
In a recent meeting with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the state government approved the handover of Raj Bhavan land for Metro station construction. Additionally, the land transfer process for Modern College has been initiated. PMRDA Commissioner Yogesh Mhase stated, “We have granted an extension to the contractor until September 2025, and the work has been accelerated following instructions.”
The project, awarded to a consortium of Tata Group’s TRIL Urban Transport Private Limited (TUTPL) and Siemens Project Ventures under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) model, has reached 82% completion. Key tasks such as duct installation and railway track laying are complete, while escalators, traffic signals, electrical systems, and minor repairs at 23 stations are in the final stages.
Last year, delays in land acquisition, permits, and tenders prompted warnings of fines, pushing contractors to expedite work. Remaining tasks at Baner, Sakalnagar, Civil Court, and 11 other stations are nearing completion. Discussions with Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) officials are underway to develop amenity spaces near Metro stations for parking facilities.
Construction for the project began in November 2021, with the first metro pillar erected in April 2022.
