Pune: PMRDA Cracks Down on Unauthorized Hoardings in Hinjawadi and Wadki; ₹48 Lakh Collected from Violators

Pune, 25 April 2025: In a decisive move to enhance public safety and urban aesthetics, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has launched a crackdown on unauthorized hoardings within its jurisdiction. The drive began on Monday, April 21, and initially targeted areas in Wadki (Haveli Taluka) and Hinjawadi (Mulshi Taluka).
The operation, carried out under the leadership of PMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase, Additional Commissioner Deepak Singla, Superintendent of Police and Vigilance Officer Amol Tambe, and Joint Commissioner Dr. Deepti Suryawanshi-Patil, led to the removal of illegal hoardings from three different locations. Tehsildars Ravindra Ranjane and Sachin Maske, along with engineers Vishnu Awhad, Deepti Ghuse, Prashant Chougule, Ruturaj Sonawane, Ganesh Jadhav, and Tejas Madane, were actively involved in the field operations, supported by local security forces.
In the wake of the crackdown, advertising companies and hoarding owners rushed to comply. By April 22, a total of ₹48 lakh had been deposited with the PMRDA by 10 hoarding owners in an effort to avoid further punitive action.
Officials cited unseasonal rains and strong winds as increasing the risk posed by unauthorized and structurally unsafe hoardings—especially those erected in high-traffic zones or exceeding height limitations. Such hoardings are now being viewed as significant public safety hazards.
The PMRDA has announced that regular enforcement will now continue against illegal hoardings, particularly those that are structurally dangerous or installed without required permissions. Joint Commissioner Dr. Deepti Suryawanshi-Patil issued a clear warning, stating that no new hoardings should be erected without prior approval, and any violations will face immediate removal without notice.
Authorities are urging all hoarding owners and advertisers to secure proper permissions before installation. Failure to comply will result in unilateral removal and further legal consequences.
