Pune: PMRDA Conducts Massive Encroachment Clearance Drive in 6 Areas; More to Follow

Pune, March 26, 2024: Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has intensified its encroachment clearance drive, now entering the third phase, in an effort to alleviate traffic congestion in the region.

The large-scale operation is being carried out in collaboration with multiple authorities, including Pune City Police, Pimpri-Chinchwad Police, Pune Rural Police, Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporations, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB), and other concerned departments.

So far, more than 4,000 encroachments have been removed as part of the three-phase initiative. The latest phase focuses on clearing key highways and major roads, including:
- Pune-Satara Road (from Navale Bridge to Sarole)
- Sus Road
- Hadapsar (Shewalwadi) to Dive Ghat
- Navlakh Umbre to Chakan
- Hinjawadi area – Maan
- Talegaon – Chakan – Shikrapur Road

Further operations are planned from Friday onwards on Shikrapur-Shirur Road and Bavdhan Road. The entire drive is being conducted under the supervision of Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase, Additional Metropolitan Commissioner Deepak Singla, and Superintendent of Police & Vigilance Officer Amol Tambe. Deputy Collector Dr. Deepti Suryawanshi-Patil is overseeing the execution of the clearance activities.
PMRDA has urged encroachers to voluntarily remove unauthorized structures to avoid forced action. The initiative aims to improve road infrastructure and ensure smoother traffic movement across Pune’s growing metropolitan area.
