Pune: PMC to Introduce Futuristic Schools, ‘Sister School’ Scheme, and Private Agency for School Hygiene

Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced a significant initiative to enhance education facilities by launching futuristic schools across the city. In the first phase, each ward office will have one such school, equipped with modern infrastructure, including computers, e-syllabus, podium walls for presentations, and other advanced technology. The civic body has allocated ₹7 crore for this project.
The announcement was made on Tuesday by Pune Municipal Commissioner Rajendra Bhosale while presenting the annual budget for 2025-26, which has a total outlay of ₹12,618 crore.
‘Sister School’ Scheme for Knowledge Exchange
PMC is also set to implement a ‘sister school’ scheme, where teachers from private schools will visit civic schools and teach for two hours every week. The initiative aims to promote knowledge exchange and enhance learning experiences for both students and civic school teachers. Although the framework is yet to be finalized, most participating teachers are expected to come from neighboring private schools.
Private Agency for School Toilet Maintenance
In another move to improve school hygiene, PMC has decided to hire a private agency to clean toilets in civic body-run schools. Currently, ward office employees clean public toilets only once a day, but the new agency will ensure multiple cleanings, leading to better hygiene and maintenance. Officials noted that private agencies have shown positive results in maintaining cleanliness in various sectors.
