Pune: PMC Planning to Widen Chandni Chowk-Bhugaon Road, May Include Flyover

Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is working on a proposal to widen a section of the Chandni Chowk to Bhugaon route that falls under its limits. Officials stated that the administration may even consider constructing a flyover or a grade separator to improve traffic flow on the busy stretch.
At least ₹15 crore has been allocated for the road-widening project, with a study already underway to identify solutions for congestion in the area. A report from the study is expected within the next three months.
The Chandni Chowk-Bhugaon route, which connects commuters to major schools, colleges, and industrial units in Pirangut, faces severe bottlenecks, often leading to complete standstills during peak hours.
A resident from Bavdhan emphasized the urgency, saying, “A large number of people travel to Pirangut daily from Bhugaon. There is an urgent need to widen this stretch.”
A PMC official shared, “We are focusing on two key aspects: widening the road to 60 metres and exploring a flyover or grade separator. Talks with landowners for land acquisition have begun.”
However, commuters highlighted that congestion persists beyond Bhugaon. A PMC official clarified that while there is no proposal yet to widen the Bhugaon road (as it falls outside PMC limits), the administration will coordinate with PWD and other authorities.
Another local resident, pointed out, “Jams start immediately after exiting the Chandni Chowk flyover towards Bhugaon. The road network here needs an overhaul.”
