Almost a month after demolishing 4,111 unauthorized structures spread across 827 acres in Kudalwadi, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is set to begin road construction in the area as per the Development Plan (DP). A senior PCMC official confirmed that the necessary funds for the project have already been allocated in the civic body’s annual budget, and the work is expected to be completed within the current financial year.

The demolition drive, carried out last month, targeted scrap shops and industrial units built without permission from the civic building permission department and the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB). As a result, PCMC reclaimed 14.6 hectares (36.2 acres) of land reserved for public amenities, including 12.2 hectares (30.1 acres) designated for roads under the DP.

To expedite land acquisition, PCMC has planned an advanced possession camp in Kudalwadi within the next two weeks. Landowners will receive ‘Form A’ and ‘Form B’ instantly during the camp, a process that previously saw success during land acquisition for service roads along the Pune-Bengaluru highway.

While roads remain the immediate priority, PCMC officials also revealed plans to develop other amenities, such as schools and town halls, in the area. Regarding rebuilding permissions for landowners, officials stated that while no applications have been submitted yet, the process will be prioritized and expedited. However, delays are expected as landowners must first complete online land measurement processes through the state government’s land records department, which currently has a waiting period of two to three months.
