Pune: PCMC Police Stations Mark World Sparrow Day with Nest Boxes, Feeders, and Conservation Efforts

In a unique initiative to combat the alarming decline in sparrow populations, various police stations in the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) area joined hands with Roseland Residency and the Nature Forever Society (NFS) to celebrate World Sparrow Day. The event aimed to raise awareness about sparrow conservation and provide a safe habitat for these urban birds.

As part of the initiative, police stations installed nest boxes, feeders, and earthen water pots on their premises. These installations ensure a steady supply of food, water, and shelter for sparrows, contributing significantly to their conservation.

Senior police officers, including ACP Sachin Hire, ACP Bhaskar Dere, PSI Khade, PI Misal, and PI Mahesh Salvi, actively supported the drive, marking the first-of-its-kind conservation effort within the department.

Chandan Chaurasia, Pune Coordinator for NFS, along with volunteers Surendra Jain, Shrinivas Gogegave, and Vijay Chaube, played a pivotal role in the successful installation of the conservation setups. The event generated immense enthusiasm among the police staff, highlighting their commitment to environmental responsibility and wildlife conservation.

This initiative sets a positive example for other institutions, emphasizing the importance of protecting urban bird species and fostering a greater understanding of their ecological significance.
