Pune: Over 2.3 Million Vehicles Yet to Apply for HSRP; 124 Fitment Centers Operational

Pune, March 11, 2025 – Despite the Maharashtra Transport Department extending the deadline for High-Security Registration Plate (HSRP) installation to April 30, over 2.3 million vehicles in Pune city have yet to submit their applications. As of now, only 32,388 vehicles have had HSRPs installed, while 1,44,684 applications are currently being processed.
An RTO official highlighted that the delay in applications is largely due to the distance of authorized fitment centers from vehicle owners’ residences. To address this issue, 124 fitment centers have been approved across Pune, with plans to increase the number further for public convenience.
The Transport Commissioner’s office has appointed three agencies for HSRP installation: Rosmerta Safety Systems Ltd (Zone 1), Real Mazon India Ltd (Zone 2), and FTA HSRP Solutions Pvt Ltd (Zone 3). Pune City (MH 12) falls under Zone 1, while Pimpri-Chinchwad (MH 14) is in Zone 2.
HSRPs, mandatory for vehicles registered before April 2019, are tamper-resistant and feature advanced security elements, including a retro-reflective film, a chromium-based Ashok Chakra hologram, and a 10-digit laser-etched serial number. Installation fees are ₹450 for two-wheelers and tractors, ₹500 for three-wheelers, and ₹745 for four-wheelers, excluding GST.
Vehicle owners must book appointments at least two days in advance, and agencies are required to update installation details, including the unique laser number and vehicle registration number, via a web-based application.
