Pune: ‘One State, One Registration’ Scheme to Launch in Pune and Thane Districts on April 1

PUNE: The Maharashtra government’s “One State, One Registration” scheme is set to roll out in Pune and Thane districts on April 1, marking the next phase of its implementation. The initiative, announced by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in January, allows residents to register land documents at any sub-registrar office within their district, irrespective of the property’s location.
In Pune district, the scheme will cover 49 sub-registrar offices, including 28 in Pune city and 21 in rural areas. Similarly, Thane district will see the scheme implemented across 27 offices, comprising 18 in Thane city and 9 in rural areas. This move eliminates the need for property owners to travel to the specific location of their property for registration, saving time and reducing congestion at offices.
Abhay Mohite, the department’s DIG (IT), highlighted the convenience for residents, stating, “Now, people can register properties in rural areas from their local sub-registrar offices, which was not possible earlier.” The scheme, which was first launched in Mumbai city and suburban areas last month, has already registered over 600 documents across 32 offices, receiving a positive response.
The department is working closely with the National Informatics Centre to upgrade hardware and software systems, ensuring all 519 sub-registrar offices across Maharashtra are equipped to handle registrations seamlessly. Additionally, the department is introducing an upgraded Leave and License 2.0 version, enabling users to pay stamp duty directly on the registration portal without switching platforms.
Property experts have welcomed the initiative but emphasized the need for robust checks to prevent misuse. Meanwhile, the department has achieved 95% of its revenue target for the 2024-25 financial year, collecting Rs 52,210 crore against a target of Rs 55,000 crore. With over 27.74 lakh documents registered so far, the department remains the second-highest revenue generator for the state.
The scheme aligns with the CM’s vision of faceless technology for simpler document registration, marking a significant step in modernizing the revenue department.
