Pune: Nigdi-Chakan Metro Stretch DPR Likely to Be Ready Next Month, Boosting Connectivity in Pimpri Chinchwad

Pune: In a significant development for Punekars, the detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed 42km Nigdi-Chakan Metro stretch is expected to be completed by next month. This new route, which will connect key localities like Nigdi, Nashik Road, Bhosari, Moshi, Wakad Bypass, and Ravet, aims to address the growing need for improved public transportation in the Pimpri Chinchwad area.
Maha Metro, which undertook the study for this route last year, is now in the final stages of preparing the DPR. Once finalized, the report will be submitted to the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) for further approvals. The study includes critical aspects such as route alignment, station locations, land requirements, and projected footfall.
This marks the second Metro route in the Pimpri Chinchwad area, complementing the existing Dapodi-PCMC Metro service and the under-construction PCMC-Nigdi elevated stretch. Earlier, a Metro-Neo project was proposed for the Nashik Phata-Chakan route, but it remained at the conceptual level. PCMC later proposed a regular Metro route, which is now advancing.
Residents have welcomed the move, emphasizing the need for better connectivity in rapidly growing areas.
The new Metro route is expected to significantly ease commuting challenges and support the residential and commercial growth witnessed in these areas in recent years.
