Pune: New Metro Routes From Katraj to Hinjawadi and Kharadi to Airport, Multimodal Hub, and Bhusari Colony Double-Decker Flyover – Mohol Directs DPR for Major Transport Upgrades
Pune’s metro network is set for a major expansion with new routes and infrastructure developments aimed at enhancing connectivity and reducing traffic congestion. Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Pune MP, Murlidhar Mohol, has proposed several key initiatives, including a metro line from Kharadi to Pune International Airport, a Katraj to Hinjawadi metro corridor, and the development of Kharadi as an Interchangeable and Multimodal Transport Hub.
In a recent meeting with Pune Metro Managing Director Shravan Hardikar, Municipal Commissioner Rajendra Bhosale was directed to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for these proposals.
- Kharadi to Pune Airport Metro Line:
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has been instructed to prepare a DPR for extending the metro from Kharadi to Pune International Airport. This route will be integrated into the existing Khadakwasla–Swargate–Hadapsar–Kharadi corridor, creating a seamless connection from Khadakwasla to the airport. - Kharadi as a Multimodal Transport Hub:
Kharadi, a rapidly growing commercial and residential area, has been identified as an ideal location for an Interchangeable and Multimodal Transport Hub. This hub will provide seamless connectivity to the airport from various metro routes, including Chandni Chowk to Wagholi, Nigdi to Swargate, Shivajinagar-Kharadi-Airport, Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar, and Khadakwasla-Swargate-Hadapsar. - Katraj to Hinjawadi Metro Route:
To address Pune’s increasing traffic congestion and urban expansion, a new metro corridor from Katraj to Hinjawadi has been proposed. This route will create a circular metro network, linking Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, and improve public transport efficiency. - Double-Decker Flyover from Bhusari Colony to Chandni Chowk:
To alleviate traffic congestion on the Vanaz to Chandni Chowk route, officials have proposed constructing a double-decker flyover. Inspired by the successful Nal Stop flyover, this structure will ensure smoother traffic flow and support the metro route in the area.
These strategic developments aim to create a robust and future-ready public transport system in Pune, ensuring seamless connectivity and reduced traffic congestion across the city.
