Pune: Murlidhar Mohol Reviews Pune Metro, Asks Officials to Submit DPR for Chandni Chowk to Hinjawadi Metro and Airport Connectivity
Pune MP and Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation, Murlidhar Mohol, recently conducted a comprehensive review of Pune Metro. Recognizing the urgent need to enhance public transport in Pune, Mohol assessed the development works, upcoming projects, and pending issues of Pune Metro.
During the review, Mohol emphasized the importance of extending metro connectivity to critical areas, specifically instructing officials to submit a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for a new metro line from Chandni Chowk to Hinjawadi. He highlighted that this line would significantly benefit thousands of citizens by improving access to one of Pune’s major IT hubs.
Additionally, Mohol raised the issue of connecting the Pune Metro with the new terminal building of Pune Airport. He underscored that improving metro connectivity to the airport is crucial for facilitating seamless travel for passengers and enhancing the overall efficiency of Pune’s transportation network.
The Phase-1 of Pune Metro, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has shown promising ridership statistics, demonstrating its success as a major transport service for Punekars. To further enhance coverage, an extension of Phase-1 from Swargate to Katraj is proposed and will commence soon after receiving approval from the Central Government.
Phase-II corridors, including Vanaz-Chandani Chowk, Ramwadi-Wagholi, SNDT-Manik Baug, and Hadapsar-Loni Kalbhor, are also under consideration. These projects are expected to start post-approval by the competent authorities.
Mohol also emphasized the need for improving ‘Last Mile Connectivity’ to enable maximum citizens to access Pune Metro through feeder buses and other means. He expressed confidence that, given the progress so far and the future developments, Pune Metro would continue to enhance the ‘Ease of Life’ for Punekars.
For unified decision-making, Maha Metro’s MD Shravan Hardikar, Pune’s Divisional Commissioner Chandrakant Pulkondwar, PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh, and PMC Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale were present during the review.
