Pune Metro is set to expand its network with a second metro line in Pimpri-Chinchwad, connecting Nigdi to Chakan. This new 42-kilometer line will run from Bhakti-Shakti Group Shilp Chowk in Nigdi to Chakan, significantly enhancing metro connectivity in the region. The project, initiated by Mahametro under the instructions of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, is currently in the detailed project plan (DPR) preparation phase. Once finalized, the plan will be submitted to the municipal corporation for approval.

The new metro line will connect key industrial and residential areas, including Ravet, Wakad, Pimple Saudagar, Pimple Gurav, Nashik Phata, Bhosari, and Moshi. Notably, Wakad and Pimple Saudagar, prominent IT and elite residential hubs, will now have metro access. This route will also create a metro junction at Nashik Phata, facilitating seamless travel to Bhosari, Chakan, and Pune city.

With this expansion, 75 percent of Pimpri-Chinchwad will be covered by metro connectivity, leaving only 25 percent of the city without access. The industrial belt, home to over three lakh residents, has long demanded improved public transport infrastructure. The new line is expected to address this need, boosting connectivity and easing travel for commuters.

The DPR is anticipated to be ready within the next 4-5 months, after which the project will require central government approval before construction begins. Once operational, the Nigdi-Chakan metro line will transform urban mobility in Pimpri-Chinchwad, connecting one-third of the city and providing a faster, more efficient travel option for residents and workers alike.
