Early Production Challenges
The early onset of warm weather accelerated production, creating a challenging situation for growers to meet the soaring export demand. Despite the hurdles, Maval’s roses have become a global sensation, fetching prices between Rs 14 to Rs 16 per flower. However, the early production has also led to concerns about a potential shortage of flowers for the local market, including cities like Pune, Mumbai, Delhi, and Kolkata.

Floriculture in Maval Taluka
Around 500 farmers cultivate roses on approximately 1,200 acres in Maval taluka, with 75 growers operating in the Floriculture Park in Talegaon. Most growers rely on corporate companies like Soex Flora, Orien Flora, and Springtime Flora for exports, while some, like the Pawana Flower Growing Company, handle exports independently.

Market Challenges and Growers’ Perspectives
Despite the challenges posed by fluctuating weather and increased logistics costs, flower growers have expressed satisfaction with the prices received this season. However, they highlighted that rising production costs and GST have impacted profitability, with demand for roses from Kenya and Ethiopia also affecting the market.
