Pune: Major Fire Breaks Out at Dhayari Waste Project, 8 Fire Engines Deployed; Disaster Averted

Pune, March 14, 2025: A massive fire broke out at the Dhayari waste project in Pune in the early hours of the morning, prompting a swift response from the fire brigade. The incident occurred at 2:54 AM, with alert citizens noticing the blaze between 2:30-3 AM and immediately informing the authorities.
Eight fire engines from Warje, Navale, Sinhagad, Erandwane, Central, and PMRDA were rushed to the scene to control the fire. The garbage project, located on the Dhayari-Sinhagad Road near Pari Company on Narhe-Dhayari Road, houses a large pile of wet and dry waste, which fueled the intense flames. Firefighters used JCBs to remove the garbage piles and extinguish the fire, which is still ongoing.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported, and a major disaster was averted as the fire did not spread to nearby large housing projects. This is not the first time the waste project has caught fire; a similar incident occurred in June 2022. Local residents are now demanding the relocation of the project, citing safety concerns due to its proximity to residential areas. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, and debates among citizens about whether the fire was intentional continue.
