In a significant move to streamline the installation of high-security registration plates (HSRP) for older vehicles, the Maharashtra Transport Commissionerate has announced a waiver on fitment fees for bulk registrations. If 25 or more vehicle owners from a housing society or building apply together, the official agency will visit the society directly to install HSRPs, eliminating the need for individual visits to designated centers.

This initiative aims to reduce inconvenience for vehicle owners and manage crowd control effectively. Previously, vehicle owners opting for home delivery services had to pay a fitment fee of Rs. 125 for two-wheelers and Rs. 250 for four-wheelers. However, under the new policy, these fees will be waived for bulk registrations.

The deadline for installing HSRPs on vehicles registered before 2019 is April 30. Fixed charges for HSRPs remain Rs. 531 for two-wheelers, Rs. 590 for three-wheelers, and Rs. 879 for four-wheelers/commercial vehicles, as confirmed by Transport Commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar.

The installation process is being managed by independent agencies, with the state divided into three sections for efficient operations. Over 18 lakh vehicle owners have already received HSRPs, with an average of 10,000 new registrations daily. Vehicle owners are urged to complete the process promptly to avoid fines for delays.

This collective registration approach not only saves time but also reduces additional costs, making it a convenient option for vehicle owners across Maharashtra.
