Pune: Last Chance to Clear Electricity Bill Arrears as MSEDCL Abhay Yojana Extended Till March 2025
Consumers in Pune struggling with electricity bill arrears now have a golden opportunity to clear their dues under the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited’s (MSEDCL) Abhay Yojana. The scheme, which offers significant relief, has been extended until March 31, 2025. It benefits domestic, commercial, industrial, and other non-agricultural consumers, even if they no longer require an electricity connection.
As per the Supreme Court’s ruling, unpaid electricity dues remain attached to a property, regardless of ownership changes. This means new landowners or occupants are liable for outstanding bills. To alleviate this burden, MSEDCL is offering a 100% waiver on interest and late fees for consumers who clear their principal dues.
In the Pune regional division, 29,501 consumers have already enrolled in the scheme. Out of these, 17,261 have cleared their dues without requiring electricity, 10,135 have had their supply reconnected, and 5,908 have received new connections.
The scheme also provides flexible payment options. Consumers paying the full outstanding amount in one go receive an additional 10% discount (low-voltage) or 5% discount (high-voltage). Alternatively, they can pay 30% upfront and clear the remaining 70% in six interest-free installments.
Across districts in the Pune region, 33,304 consumers have applied, clearing ₹43.11 crore in dues. Pune district leads with 12,096 consumers paying ₹27.56 crore, followed by Kolhapur (6,453 consumers, ₹6.36 crore), Solapur (4,719 consumers, ₹4.02 crore), Sangli (4,566 consumers, ₹3.08 crore), and Satara (1,667 consumers, ₹2.09 crore).
Pune Regional Director Bhujang Khandare has urged eligible consumers to take advantage of this one-time opportunity. Applications can be submitted via MSEDCL’s official website, mobile app, or the nearest office.
