Pune: Landslide on Trek Route to Sinhagad Fort, Forest Dept Appeals to Visitors to Avoid the Route
Heavy rains caused a landslide on the Atakarwadi trek route to Sinhagad early Sunday morning, prompting the forest department to urge tourists and trekkers to avoid the trek route.
This appeal follows viral videos showing large crowds at the fort, which led the department to issue an advisory. Sinhagad Fort, a popular monsoon day trip destination for Punekars and visitors from outside Pune, has seen an influx of visitors since the start of the rainy season, especially on weekends.
Following the recent Lonavala mishap that drowned five, the district has issued a prohibitory order at tourist places, including Sinhagad Fort. The fort authorities have started implementing a timewise release of vehicles from both sides onto the ghat section road to prevent similar incidents.
The heavy rains and resulting landslide have heightened the need for caution, and the forest department’s advisory aims to ensure the safety of all visitors.
