Pune: Hyena spotted in Wagholi, residents advised to exercise caution
There is possibility that the hyena may be injured, possibly following an attack by stray dogs, which could make its behavior unpredictable
On the morning of Friday, an Indian hyena was spotted on Green Sunrise Hill in Wagholi, near Ivy Nia Society. The sighting occurred around 7:30 a.m, as the animal was seen wandering alone towards the society from the hillside. Members of the Green Sunrise Hill group, who saw the animal, promptly informed Pune Pulse and alerted the Forest Department, urging authorities to take necessary action.
The presence of the hyena has caused alarm among locals and frequent visitors to the hill. Many fitness enthusiasts and morning walkers frequent the area, and they have been encouraged to take precautions. There is conjecture that the hyena may have been hurt, possibly as a result of an attack by stray dogs, making its behavior unpredictable.
This is the first recorded sighting of a hyena in this area, generating concerns about increased wildlife activity near residential areas. In addition to the hyena, other people have claimed seeing leopards, however no photographic evidence has been acquired yet.
Given the recent wildlife sightings, residents and visitors are encouraged to take care to reduce dangers. The authorities recommend the following measures: Avoid visiting the hill alone. Avoid visiting at strange hours, particularly early in the morning or late at night.
Wildlife movement near human populations is becoming increasingly common as cities grow in size and natural habitats dwindle. The Forest Department has been contacted, and it is expected to closely monitor the situation. Until further notice, homeowners should be vigilant and report any future sightings to the appropriate authorities.
