Pune: Hindavi Swarajya Sculpture at Chandni Chowk Approved; PMC Allocates ₹5 Crore
The proposal to erect the Hindavi Swarajya sculpture at Chandni Chowk has been approved by the Standing Committee, according to Commissioner Rajendra Bhosale.
This project is part of the broader development of Chandni Chowk, utilizing the 5,542 square meters of space between the road from Chandni Chowk to Warje, the flyover from Mulshi to Kothrud, and the service road of the national highway from Satara to Mumbai.
The Pune Municipal Corporation’s Building Department has prepared the proposal, with Architect Satish Kamble appointed to design and oversee the beautification of the area and the erection of the Hindavi Swarajya sculpture.
Project Features
- Entrance Gate: A stone entrance gate will mark the beginning of the development.
- Fountains: Lotus petal-shaped fountains will add to the aesthetic appeal.
- Sculpture: The highlight will be a 20-foot-high bronze statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj atop an approximately 17-foot tall platform.
- Pathways: Yellow and red sandstone pathways will lead through the area.
- Additional Features: A smaller entrance gate on the opposite side, a retaining wall on one side, and a boundary wall on the other will be included. Landscaping and garden work will enhance the remaining space.
Tenders were invited for the project, and the Standing Committee has approved a bid of approximately ₹7.81 crore. An allocation of ₹5 crore has been made in the current fiscal year’s budget for the construction of the sculpture.
