Pune: Heavy Rainfall Alert Issued, Khadakwasla Dam to Release Water, Tourist Spots and Schools Closed
Pune, July 25, 2024 – Dr. Suhas Diwase, Collector and President of the District Disaster Management Authority, has appealed to Pune residents to be cautious and only go outside if necessary due to the forecast of heavy rain in Pune city and surrounding areas.
Since yesterday morning at 8:30 am, continuous rain has been recorded in the Pune district, with heavy to very heavy rainfall and isolated places experiencing extremely heavy rain.

Closure of Tourist Places and Safety Measures
In light of the severe weather conditions and heavy rainfall forecast for the region, Dr. Suhas Diwase has ordered the closure of all tourist places for the next 48 hours. This decision follows a thorough review of the situation in consultation with the Sub Divisional Officer and Tehsildar.
Dr. Diwase has activated the district disaster management system and instructed relief and rescue teams to be on high alert. Additionally, he has directed the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to implement necessary precautionary measures in riverside areas to ensure public safety.
Key directives issued by the Collector include:
- Closure of Tourist Places: All tourist spots in the district will remain closed for 48 hours to prevent any mishaps due to the adverse weather conditions.
- Ban on Dangerous Areas: Tourists are strictly prohibited from visiting dangerous tourist places, hazardous streams, and drains.
- Traffic Restrictions: Bridges deemed dangerous will be closed for traffic to avoid any accidents.
Water Release from Khadakwasla Dam
In response to the heavy rainfall, the discharge of water from Khadakwasla Dam has been increased. Starting today, July 25, 2024, 40,000 cusecs of water will be released. This may lead to water accumulation in the low-lying areas of Pune city. Dr. Diwase has urged citizens to remain vigilant and step out only if necessary.

School Closures Announced
Due to the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall as predicted by the Meteorological Department, all schools in Pune city and its surrounding areas have been declared closed today. This decision was announced by Dr. Suhas Diwase to ensure the safety of students.
