Pune: Hapus Mango Prices Soar to Rs 2000 per Dozen Amid Crop Shortage This Gudi Padwa

Pune, March 25, 2025: Hapus mango lovers are in for a shock this Gudi Padwa as prices have surged to Rs 1500 – 2000 per dozen due to a severe crop shortage. Unseasonal rain, warmer temperatures, and insufficient cold weather have damaged the Hapus mango yield, causing early blossom drop and reducing production by half.
Typically, 4,000 – 5,000 boxes of Konkan mangoes arrive daily in March, but this year, only 700 – 1,000 boxes are reaching the market. Traders expect supply to improve next month, but current prices remain steep compared to last year’s Rs 800 – 1200 per dozen.
Market arrivals have dropped by 30 – 40%, with Ratnagiri and Devgad Hapus mangoes now priced at Rs 1000 – 2000 per dozen, up from Rs 500 – 700 previously. Mango trader Yuvraj Kachi warns of tough competition among sellers due to lower supply, with bulk purchases (4 – 7 dozen boxes) costing Rs 3000 – 8000.
Climate change has severely impacted this year’s mango production, making the festive treat a luxury for many.
