The Pune Metro Project, initiated in December 2016 with the foundation stone laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has made significant progress. In March 2022, sections of the Purple and Aqua lines were inaugurated, marking a milestone in Pune’s public transportation system.

Currently, the Pune Metro operates two lines:

Purple Line (PCMC – Swargate): 17.4 km with 14 stations (5 underground, 9 elevated).
Aqua Line (Vanaz – Ramwadi): 15.7 km with 16 elevated stations.
Line 3 (Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar): Known as Puneri Metro, is under construction and is being implemented by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) in a joint venture with Tata Projects and Siemens Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited on a public-private partnership basis.

Current Status of All Pune Metro Lines in Pune:

Line 1 – Purple Line (PCMC-Civil Court-Swargate): Operational.
Line 2 – Aqua Line (Vanaz-Ramwadi): Operational.
Line 3 (Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar): Under Construction, likely to be operational by September 2025.
Line 1 – Purple Line Extension (PCMC to Nigdi): Under Construction.
Line 1 – Purple Line Extension (Swargate to Katraj): Under Bidding.
Line 2 – Aqua Line Extension (Ramwadi to Wagholi): Pending Central Government Approval.
Line 2 – Aqua Line Extension (Vanaz to Chandni Chowk): Pending Central Government Approval.
Line 4 (Kharadi-Hadapsar-Swargate-Khadakwasla): Pending Central Government Approval.
Line 5 (SNDT-Warje-Manikbaug): Pending Central Government Approval.
Line 6 (Hadapsar-Loni Kalbhor): Pending PMC, State & Central Government Approval.
Line 6 (Hadapsar-Saswad Road Railway Station): Pending PMC, State & Central Government Approval.
Katraj-Hinjewadi Line: Proposed.
