Pune: Eatery Staffer Killed in Fire on First Day of Job Due to Leaking Gas Cylinder

Pune, March 31 – A tragic fire at an eatery in Dhankawadi claimed the life of a 24-year-old staffer on his first day of work. The incident occurred on Sunday at the Saiba Tea Shop in the KK Market area when a leaking gas cylinder ignited, leading to a massive blaze that also damaged two adjacent shops.
According to Fire Brigade officials, the fire started around 4 PM when a staffer placed a pot of milk for boiling. The leaked gas caught fire, quickly engulfing the eatery. While others managed to escape, one employee, identified as Santosh, suffered severe burns and succumbed to his injuries.
Fire Officer Sunil Naiknavre stated, “We received emergency calls and dispatched a fire tender immediately. The fire was brought under control within minutes, and three gas cylinders were safely removed from the eatery.”
Following the firefighting operation, officials conducted a cooling process to prevent secondary fires. The incident underscores the need for stringent safety measures in commercial establishments handling LPG cylinders.
