Pune: Deceased Engineer’s Family Awarded Rs 2.44 Crore Compensation in Lok Adalat Settlement

Pune, 22nd March 2025: In a significant ruling, the family of a 34-year-old computer engineer, who tragically lost his life in a road accident last year, has been awarded a compensation of ₹2.44 crore. The settlement was finalized during a Lok Adalat session held on Saturday (March 22) and is set to be paid within a year of filing the claim.
The accident occurred on February 4, 2024, when the engineer was riding a bike along Sinhagad Road with a friend. A tempo, coming from the opposite direction near Khadakwasla Dam, collided with their vehicle, leaving him critically injured. Despite immediate medical attention at a private hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.
Following his untimely demise, his wife, mother, sister, and niece filed a claim with the Motor Accidents Tribunal on April 19, 2024, seeking ₹2.85 crore in compensation. The amount was calculated based on his age, monthly salary of ₹1,67,333, and the financial needs of his dependents. After legal deliberations, a compromise was reached, and the family was awarded ₹2.44 crore.
The settlement was facilitated by a panel comprising District and Sessions Judge B.P. Kshirsagar and Advocate Atul Gunjal. Advocates Sanjay Raut and Anita Raut represented the deceased’s family, while Advocate Sham Maheshwari defended the insurance company. Adv. Maheshwari played a pivotal role in ensuring the settlement was reached amicably.
The Lok Adalat’s decision has brought much-needed relief to the grieving family, providing them with financial security in the wake of their tragic loss.
